Panel to Further Study Downing of Iran Plane
The International Civil Aviation Organization has decided to reserve judgment, pending more study, on the downing of an Iran Airbus by the U.S. Navy in July.
The governing council of the Montreal-based U.N. organization decided Wednesday to send its report on the incident to an internal commission. The international group’s Air Navigation Commission will begin studying the report at its next meeting in February.
The Iran Airbus A-300 was blown from the sky by the cruiser Vincennes after U.S. seamen mistakenly identified it as an Iranian F-14 fighter plane. All 290 people on board were killed.
