About 400 protesters were arrested during weekend demonstrations outside Planned Parenthood clinics in Concord and Fairfield, police said. The participants included members of a nationwide anti-abortion group called Operation Rescue, which has staged protests regularly all year, as well as pro-choice counter-demonstrators. Kelly Connelly of Operation Rescue called the protests a success because they disrupted clinic operations. But Planned Parenthood officials said they merely rescheduled appointments or referred patients to other clinics. While there were no serious confrontations between the two groups, Concord Police Sgt. Barry Dansie said, “There was some verbal taunting, pushing and shoving.” There were 184 people arrested at the Concord clinic and 215 at the Fairfield facility. Most were booked for investigation of trespassing and released.
