Roger Bell will take over as news director at KABC-TV Channel 7, the longtime local news ratings leader, Jan 3. Bell replaces Terry Crofoot, who last October was promoted to the president and general manager’s position vacated last September by John Severino. Bell, the assistant news director under Crofoot at KABC from 1983-87, served for the last year as news director at KMGH-TV, the CBS affiliate in Denver. He assumes the leadership of Channel 7’s newsroom at a time when KABC’s perennial ratings supremacy is being seriously threatened by rival KNBC-TV Channel 4.
