Circuit City Stores Inc. posted a 53% increase in third-quarter profit to $13.7 million. The Richmond, Va.-based consumer electronics and appliances retailer said sales rose 23% for the quarter to $434.3 million. The company credited the improvement to strong sales at new stores and increases in comparable-store sales.
