WORLD : Israel Bars Arab-American Leader
Israel barred an Arab-American leader today, accusing him of having a long record of anti-Israeli activities, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alon Liel said.
Abdeen Jabara, president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, was refused entry at Ben Gurion Airport, held in police custody and ordered to leave the country on the return flight to New York on Saturday.
Jabara called the ban an unconscionable act and said he had visited Israel at least 15 times. “I am not an enemy of the state. This is a violation of the treaty agreement between the United States and Israel,” he said at the airport.
