NHL Suspends Probert for Hitting Goalie
DETROIT — Bob Probert of the Detroit Red Wings will sit out the next three games after being suspended for hitting Toronto goaltender Allan Bester, the National Hockey League has ruled.
NHL Executive Vice President Brian O’Neill announced the suspension Thursday after Probert and Detroit coach Jacques Demers met him for a hearing in Toronto.
The Red Wings won’t appeal Probert’s suspension, a club spokeswoman said. Probert will miss tonight’s game against Los Angeles at Detroit, a game Saturday at Pittsburgh and Thursday’s home game against St. Louis.
Probert rejoined the Red Wings Nov. 27 after his suspension from training camp for violating team rules. He has been undergoing treatment for alcoholism.
