Superplane

I find it hard to believe that in your rating of “Pop’s Top Freshmen,” the Jefferson Airplane wasn’t given any mention (“The Super Freshman Class of ‘88,” by Robert Hilburn, Nov. 27).

In 1967, “Surrealistic Pillow” was a widely popular album. This album, recorded after the addition of Great Society vocalist Grace Slick, was one of the most original, important platters of the decade. (And it sounded good too!) Who can forget “White Rabbit” or the searing “Somebody to Love”?

To mention Hendrix, Joplin, Buffalo Springfield and omit the Airplane was a glaring oversight. Or was it a personal opinion voiced by Robert Hilburn? Either way, facts are facts. Jefferson Airplane was the “outstanding student” in your class of 1967.
