Forrest Sawyer, normally seen early in the day as co-anchor of ABC’s “World News This Morning,” will make a prime-time appearance Dec. 29 as anchor of a news documentary, “Dangers in the Workplace.” The hourlong program will examine the various perils that many Americans face at work.

Just in time for Christmas: Time magazine’s “Man of the Year” cover will be announced in a half-hour special on Cable News Network Saturday (to be shown at 1:30 and 11 p.m.). The program will profile the subject. The magazine then hits newsstands the next Monday.

Julia Duffy of “Newhart” will star opposite Dinah Manoff in “The Cover Girl and the Cop,” a TV movie set for broadcast on NBC Dec. 26. Duffy plays a model who has witnessed a murder; Manoff is the police officer assigned to protect her. Also in the cast are John Karlen, Parker Stevenson, Blair Underwood and David Carradine.

Rue McClanahan of “The Golden Girls” and Edward Woodward of “The Equalizer” are among the stars in “The Man in the Brown Suit,” an Agatha Christie mystery movie that will be shown on CBS Jan. 4. Also appearing in it will be Tony Randall, Stephanie Zimbalist and Ken Howard.

Rod Steiger and Mariette Hartley have been cast as a married couple in “Passion and Paradise,” a four-hour movie for ABC about the 1943 murder of millionaire Sir Harry Oakes. Catherine Mary Stewart stars as their daughter, whose marriage to a gigolo (Armand Assante) upsets them greatly. The film is being shot in Jamaica.

Briefly noted: The acclaimed Canadian circus troupe Cirque du Soleil has taped a TV special for HBO, for airing in April. . . . The 1983 featurette “Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore” will have its network television debut Jan. 8 on NBC’s “The Magical World of Disney.” . . . Cable superstation TBS is preparing a two-hour documentary for February about “the destruction of the world’s rivers by industrialization, mining and commercialization.”

Another football bowl game? Yes--only this one will be played in September. It’s the Glasnost Bowl, and will be played next Sept. 2 in Moscow. ABC not only has the rights locked up--it already has assigned Keith Jackson, Bob Griese and Mike Adamle to cover it. Oh, yes--the contestants: USC vs. the University of Illinois.
