Share

This is the most popular of Southern California bikeways. It passes all the beaches and stays near the Pacific. Cyclers will find shops, water fountains, food, bike racks, and recreational activities along the way. Extremely heavy traffic on weekends and through the summer. Night riding not recommended.

Stretches from Santa Monica almost to Palos Verdes Peninsula, beginning at California Avenue in Santa Monica, closely following the ocean to Washington Street in Venice. The route becomes Class II along Washington Street, then cuts inland to Mildred Avenue. Class I and II through Marina del Rey. At Fisherman’s Village, Class I resumes and the Ballona Creek Trail joins the bikeway. It follows a levee along the Ballona Creek, crosses Pacific Avenue bridge then joins Class I path that meanders through Isidore B. Dockweiler State Beach, El Segundo, and Manhattan Beach. Bikeway jogs to the west at the end of Manhattan Beach and follows Hermonsa Beach Strand into Redondo Beach, ending at Herondo Street and Harbor Drive. To continue southward, cyclist must turn right and follow Harbor Drive to Redondo Pier area where the trail passes Basin No. 3 of King Harbor, through the pier parking stucture and continuing south along a Class I path also runs along the western side of Catalina Avenue to Torrance Boulevard.
