USC Settles Out of Court With Morrison

A $3.6-million lawsuit against USC by its former basketball coach, Stan Morrison, was settled out of court several weeks ago, it was learned Monday.

USC Athletic Director Mike McGee and Morrison’s attorney, Leonard Armato, confirmed the settlement but would not comment on the terms.

“Let’s just say that unfinished business has become finished,” McGee said.

Morrison said in the suit that his contract had been breached when he was fired by McGee in March, 1986, without cause or warning. He also said the termination cost him income from television and radio appearances, shoe endorsements and his coaching position.

Morrison, who is now the athletic director at UC Santa Barbara, became an associate athletic director at USC when his coaching job was terminated after 7 years. At the time, Morrison said he was resigning, but he said later that he had been fired.

George Raveling, now in his third season, replaced Morrison as basketball coach.
