SSMC Inc. and Hua Nan Sewing Machine Industrial Co. of China have formed an equity joint venture for the manufacture and sale of Singer sewing machines in the People’s Republic of China and for export to worldwide markets. William F. Andrews, chairman of SSMC, formerly Singer Co., said the contract has received final approval from Chinese officials that permit operations to begin this month. He added that the arrangement calls for Shelton, Conn.-based SSMC to hold a 51% interest in the enterprise. The production facilities are scheduled to employ a work force of more than 300.
