Waylon Jennings was released from the Baptist Hospital in Nashville on Wednesday, promising to quit smoking and start eating better after recuperating from triple heart bypass surgery performed on him Dec. 12. Jennings even felt fit enough to joke with reporters, calling the upper portion of his surgical scar his “new necktie,” adding: “The CMA (Country Music Assn.) always wanted me to wear a tie. Now I’ve got a permanent one for them.” Jennings’ longtime pal, country music hall of famer Johnny Cash, is “awake and doing very well” at Baptist following open heart surgery Monday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Due to the holiday season, there will be no Billboard magazine Video Rentals or Pop Album charts today or Friday. The charts will return next week.
