Burial services were held Wednesday for longtime Manhattan Beach Treasurer Duncan Kelly, who died last week of a blood infection. He was 76.
Kelly had served in the part-time post since 1976 and was reelected to a fourth term last May. He had lived in Manhattan Beach for 43 years.
Co-owner of a food brokerage company before he retired, Kelly was a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Council members canceled their Tuesday night meeting to attend Mass for Kelly. The council will decide later whether to fill the vacancy by appointment or election.
Kelly is survived by his wife, Margaret, a son, three daughters, a brother and four grandchildren.
