WASHINGTON —
The Army grounded its entire fleet of 234 CH-47D Chinook medium-lift helicopters today after being warned by the manufacturer that some transmissions may have been improperly assembled.
“The precautionary action is the result of Boeing Helicopters’ notification to the Army that certain transmissions may have been improperly assembled,” an Army statement said. “Boeing Helicopter detected the assembly error on a new-production transmission.” The inspections are expected to take 30 days.
