Much of the West awoke to a “very White Christmas,” the National Weather Service said, courtesy of a winter storm that whipped Arizona with 50-m.p.h. winds, while snow showers dusted the Great Lakes region and northern New England. The weather service said some parts of Utah could get more than 2 feet of snow. Fog reduced visibility in western Miami to near zero. Temperatures were below freezing early in the day across much of the West, from the high plains to the Great Lakes. Meanwhile, the East basked in relatively mild temperatures, from the 80s in Florida to the 50s in New York City.
