World : Afghanistan Declares Cease-Fire

MOSCOW — Afghan President Najibullah announced today that the country’s armed forces will begin observing a cease-fire in their war against Muslim insurgents on New Year’s Day, Tass reported.
The Soviet press agency, in a despatch from Kabul, said the president made the announcement in a TV address. It quoted the Afghan leader as saying that government forces “will not stage any military action against the opposition forces from Jan. 1.”
