Local News in Brief : Costa Mesa : Coast District Picks Human Resources Chief

John D. Renley, a former administrator at El Camino College in Torrance, has been named new vice chancellor of human resources for the Costa Mesa-based Coast Community College District.

Renley succeeds Phillis B. Basile, who retired in August.

The Coast Community College District governs Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Golden West College and KOCE-TV in Huntington Beach, and Coast Community College in Fountain Valley.

In the $78,086-a-year post, Renley will be responsible to the district chancellor for employer-employee relations, collective bargaining and affirmative action programs.

Renley, 52, was a senior assistant superintendent for personnel services in Fullerton Joint Union High School District from 1966 to 1976. After a 2-year stint as a school management consultant with a private company, Renley joined El Camino College in 1978 as dean of personnel services.

In 1980, he was promoted to vice president/assistant superintendent of student and personnel services at that college.

He holds a doctorate of education degree in personnel administration from USC. He lives in La Habra with his wife and two children.
