Florence Griffith Joyner has been elected the 1988 Champion of Champions by an international jury of sportswriters, the French sports daily L’Equipe reported. Griffith Joyner, who won gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters and the 400-meter relay in the Seoul Olympics, beat East German swimmer Kristin Otto, winner of 6 gold medals. West German tennis star Steffi Graf was third. It was the first time that the top 3 places in the poll had gone to women.
