U.S. District Judge David V. Kenyon has refused to throw out the U.S. attorney’s criminal fraud case against Donald P. Mangano and John Lee Molinaro, former owners of the now-defunct Ramona Savings & Loan Assn. The two men were accused of conspiracy and bank fraud for allegedly looting the Orange thrift of its assets before regulators seized it in 1986. The pair pleaded not guilty. They contended that evidence gathered for a civil suit was improperly used against them in the criminal case, and they asked the court to dismiss the case or suppress the evidence. Kenyon refused, according to court documents made public Tuesday.
