A 22-year-old woman was charged with attempting to extort $8 million from a Lake Tahoe casino through telephone calls and misspelled notes threatening to set off a bomb at the resort’s New Year’s Eve party unless her demands were met. “WE have installed highLY Sophisticated Plastic explosives in your casino to avoid killing inocent people,” the extortionist said in one note that used newspaper cutouts to form words. “This is not a game. We have nothing to lose. You do.” No explosives were discovered in Harrah’s Tahoe, and the resort was not evacuated, authorities said. Nohemi Guarjardo Gomez, a Fresno native who recently moved to South Lake Tahoe, Calif., was arrested on charges of interfering with commerce with threats of violence, which carries a possible 20-year sentence, Assistant U.S. Atty.
