The U.S. Olympic Committee proposed a $249-million budget for the 1989-92 quadrennial period, almost $100 million more than the budget for the 4-year period that ended with the 1988 Games.

The budget is expected to be approved by the USOC’s executive board at meetings in Portland, Ore., Feb. 17-19.

USOC President Robert Helmick said that almost all of the increase will be allocated to the direct support of athletes, program services and the governing bodies of the 40 sports affiliated with the USOC.
