Rookie goalkeeper Kris Peat won his first Major Indoor Soccer League start and Michael Collins and Fernando Clavijo each scored 2 goals as the Lazers beat the Baltimore Blast, 6-1, Saturday night before 6,823 at the Forum.
Peat, a first-round draft pick out of North Carolina State, shut out the Blast until Carl Valentine’s goal with only 31 seconds left. Baltimore is the second-highest scoring team in the league. Peat made 17 saves.
Collins extended his goal-scoring streak to 5 games when he scored at 10:06 into the second period. He increased the lead to 2-0 at 2:36 of the third period.
Waad Hirmez, who assisted on both of Collins’ goals, added 1 of his own 4:45 into the final quarter.
The Blast pulled veteran goalie Slobo Ilijevski in favor of a sixth attacker, and Clavijo scored twice and Hector Marinaro added a goal for a 6-0 lead.
Valentine scored off the restart after Marinaro’s goal.
It was the third straight victory at home for the Lazers.
