Can Pat Sajak succeed where others have failed?

That’s the question riding on “The Pat Sajak Show,” which CBS will unveil Monday night at 11:30 opposite NBC’s long-running, successful “Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.”

Sajak, who used to deliver the weather news for KNBC in a studio down the hall from Carson at NBC/Burbank, now will be trying to make a dent in Carson’s audience. Others, including Joan Rivers, have found that isn’t a snap assignment.

Sajak’s sidekick will be Dan Miller, a former KCBS-TV anchorman. The two worked together for five years on a Nashville station in the ‘70s and have been friends ever since.

In taking on his new late-night show, Sajak has given up hosting the daytime “Wheel of Fortune” on NBC, but will continue to host the syndicated version of that popular game show with Vanna White.
