Countywide : Transit Panel to Vote on 3-County Rail Agency
- Share via
The Orange County Transportation Commission is scheduled to vote today on creating a joint-powers agency with Los Angeles and San Diego county transportation officials that will oversee improvements in passenger rail service.
Eventually, county officials said last week, the joint powers agency may seek to own the rail line that links Los Angeles and San Diego through Orange County.
The proposal to be considered at today’s OCTC meeting in Santa Ana would give five agencies voting membership: the Los Angeles and Orange County transportation commissions, the North San Diego County Transit Development Board, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit Development Board, and Caltrans.
OCTC is also planning Monday to earmark $2.2 million to pay for new tracks and other rail improvements as part of a long-range effort to increase the number and frequency of trains between Los Angeles and San Clemente.
