Jorgensen Leads USC at Irvine Swim Event

Dan Jorgensen won one event and finished third in another Sunday as USC won the UC Irvine men’s swimming invitational at Heritage Park in Irvine.

Jorgensen, a two-time selection as The Times’ swimmer of the year while at Mission Viejo High School, won the 200-meter butterfly in 1 minute 54.1 seconds. He finished third in the 100 freestyle (47.25). Teammate Erik Ran won the 100 freestyle in 46.38.

The Trojans finished with 744 points. Cal State Long Beach was second (652), Chico State third (613) and Irvine fourth (574).

Brian Pajer of Irvine won the 100 breaststroke (57.31) and 200 breaststroke (2:05.78).

In the UC Irvine women’s swimming invitational:

Tina Schnare had two first-place finishes as Cal State Northridge won the meet with 656 points.

Schnare finished first in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.19) and the 200 breaststroke (2:26.08).

Long Beach was second with 636 points and Irvine was third (363).

Devon Coate of Irvine finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:14.55) and 200 butterfly (2:14.80).
