Memorex Telex NV announced an agreement to purchase half of National Advanced Systems from National Semiconductor for $250 million in cash and 4 million shares of Memorex Telex common stock. National Semiconductor would own the remaining 50% of the Santa Clara, Calif.-based firm, which has $900 million in annual revenue and is Hitachi’s largest worldwide distributor of IBM-compatible large and medium-size central processing systems. “Even though this is being called a joint venture, I really don’t see that there’s much doubt . . . of the acquisition of NAS by Telex somewhere down the road,” a computer market analyst said.
