Arthur Robbins; County AIDS Board Member
Arthur Robbins, a member of the Los Angeles County Commission on AIDS and a clinical psychologist in Los Angeles, died Jan. 3 at his Los Angeles home.
He was 39.
Since he was diagnosed in 1986 as having acquired immune deficiency syndrome, Robbins had worked actively for a hospice program for victims of the fatal disease.
On the commission, Robbins was a leading spokesman for the establishment of an AIDS unit at County-USC Medical Center.
He also was a board member of the Los Angeles Assn. of Clinical Psychologists and one of the first openly gay psychologists in the county who spoke often on the misconceptions of homosexuality and AIDS. He was a past chairman of the Assn. of Lesbian and Gay Psychologists, now a division of the American Psychological Assn.
He is survived by his mother, Rose; a sister, and his life partner, John Robbins, who legally took his companion’s surname.
