Downey : 4% Hike in Residential Water Rates Approved
The Downey City Council voted Tuesday to raise water rates 4% to pay for the increased cost of operating the municipal water system.
The water bill for an average residential customer will jump from $23.93 for a two-month period to $24.96 beginning Feb. 1, Water Supt. Greg Mayfield said.
“It’s kind of like a cost-of-living increase,” Mayfield said. “It’s to maintain the current level of services.”
The Downey water system serves about 23,000 residences and businesses throughout the city. Water rates were last raised in January, 1988.
