U.S. Orders New Inspections for 300 Jets’ Warning Systems

WASHINGTON —
The Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday that it is ordering new engine inspections for 300 Boeing 737-400 and Boeing 737-300 aircraft after the crash of a 737-400 in England last Sunday.
The FAA said its directive requires the inspection of the engine fire-warning system and the vibration monitoring circuitry on the eight Boeing 737-400 and 292 Boeing 737-300 planes operated by U.S. airlines.
The FAA said the U.S. airlines operating the new Boeing 737-400 and the older Boeing 737-300 would be required to make the new, one-hour inspection within 72 hours of receiving the order.
