Occupancy Drops But Prices Don’t

Share

The room occupancy rate at Orange County’s hotels and motels dropped to 70.7% from 71.9% in the 10 months ending in October, 1987 compared to the year-earlier period, according to Pannell Kerr Forster, an accounting and hotel consulting firm. The average daily room rate rose to $69.90 from $68.46.

The airport-Newport Beach area was the only one of four county areas that registered an increase in occupancy. The tourist-rich Anaheim area showed a 2% drop, but it still had the highest occupancy rate, 75.5%.

Hotel rooms in the county are a relative bargain compared to other California cities. A separate survey of average room rates in the first 9 months of last year showed that San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles all were more expensive to stay in than Orange County.
