Advanced Micro Devices, a chip maker based in Sunnyvale, Calif., posted a $34.1-million fourth-quarter loss. It said orders for semiconductors declined because of weak personal computer sales. The company also cited $17 million in costs from a recent plant closing and dismissal of 2,400 workers. The company lost $2.6 million in the year-ago quarter. For the whole year, the company posted a $19.3 million profit, its first in three years.
