Four leaders of the French terrorist group Direct Action were sentenced to life imprisonment for the 1986 murder of Renault chairman Georges Besse. A seven-judge panel convicted Nathalie Menigon, 31, and Joelle Aubron, 29, of shooting the industrialist outside his Paris home. Jean-Marc Rouillan, 36, and Georges Cipriani, 38, were convicted as accomplices. The court recommended that the two women and two men serve a minimum of 18 years. Direct Action took responsibility for Besse’s killing, saying he was a symbol of imperialism.
