As an ex-smoker of four years, I read with great interest your editorial “Reaching the Smokers” (Jan. 8). I also noticed the half-page cigarette ad. If you’re really concerned that smoking claims 300,000 lives annually and that 3,000 people begin smoking for the first time every day, then The Times should not accept cigarette ads.
