Controversial TV talk show host Morton Downey Jr. wants to turn Del Webb’s small but elegant Claridge Casino Hotel in Atlantic City into “the casino capital of the blue-collar crowd.” Downey has bid an undisclosed amount for the financially ailing Claridge, the smallest of the seaside resort’s 12 gaming halls. It’s been for sale since March. If the deal goes through, Downey says he’ll move permanently to the Claridge and tape many of his shows there.
