Evans Wins Race at Long Beach Event

Janet Evans, who won three gold medals in last summer’s Olympics, won the 400-meter individual medley Sunday at the Southern California Swimming Q-Meet at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
Evans, of Placentia, finished in 4:12.81. The meet concludes today with Evans swimming the 1,650-meter freestyle. Preliminary heats start at 9 a.m. with the finals at 5 p.m.
