Rival Shiite Muslim militias vowed revenge as they buried victims of their fighting in south Lebanon. “We shall take revenge! It shall be merciless!” chanted 1,500 zealots of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah during a funeral procession in Beirut for four fighters killed in southern Lebanon. In the southern port of Tyre, 7,000 mourners of the Syrian-backed Amal militia staged a funeral for three victims. “Death to Khomeini!” they chanted, a reference to Iran’s leader, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. In Beirut, meanwhile, new street battles between Amal and Hezbollah left two people dead and five wounded.
