Top fisheries policy-makers from the Soviet Union and China have agreed to come to Alaska for a six-nation economic summit on Pacific fisheries, a State Department official said. “To the best of my knowledge, this would be the first international meeting in recent history called to address the business issues involved in national fishery policies,” said Edward Wolfe, deputy assistant secretary of state for oceans and fisheries affairs. The International Conference on Pacific Rim Fisheries, scheduled for March 14-15, will be sponsored by the University of Alaska Center for International Business. Wolfe said Canada has accepted an invitation and Japan and South Korea are expected to attend.
