Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

“Red Heat” is the red-hot rental now, blazing up to No. 3 on the Billboard magazine rental chart in just two weeks. Look for it to bump “Three Men and a Baby” out of No. 1 in the next few weeks. “A Nightmare on Elm Street 4” slithered up two notches to No. 7. Although it was a box-office smash, so far it has not proved strong enough to be a serious challenger for the rental-chart’s top spot. Rental chart debuts: “The Blob” (No. 22) and “Vibes” (No. 35). Michael Jackson’s “Moonwalker” debuted at No. 35 on the sales chart, which measures sales to retailers and distributors.

*”Young Guns”--the bloody, Brat-Pack Western--shot up to No. 8 in its first week on the chart. Watch for this one to be shooting it out soon with “Red Heat” for the No. 1 spot.
