Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : College Staff Shows Its Pride in Students
Rancho Santiago College staffers are figuratively busting their buttons to show their pride in the students.
Staff members of the community college in recent days have been wearing buttons that say, “We’re Glad You’re Here.”
Grace Mitchell, vice chancellor of student affairs and community services, said the idea is to make students realize how much they are appreciated.
“One of the big issues in student retention is making a ‘fit’ between the student and the institution,” Mitchell said. “We want to send a message to the students that we really do care, and we are here for them.”
Mitchell said staffers are wearing the buttons at registration lines for the spring semester. “Despite what we feel is a streamlined registration process, many people often come unprepared and need to look to someone for some help,” she said.
“That’s where the buttons come in: identifying persons who are available to give some guidance and probably a needed smile of encouragement.”
