A crowd of Nicaraguans looted a Red Cross warehouse in Managua, taking aid packages intended for victims of Hurricane Joan, which struck the region in October, the opposition newspaper La Prensa and a Red Cross spokeswoman said. La Prensa reported that about 150 people gathered outside the warehouse in a poor neighborhood. Several youths then broke in and began tossing out boxes of clothing and food.
