The parents of 12-year-old UC Santa Cruz graduate Adragon De Mello reached a compromise, ending court supervision of the boy. The agreement worked out in juvenile court stipulated joint physical and legal custody of Adragon by both parents, Agustin De Mello, 59, and Cathy Gunn, 36, according to Paul Meltzer, the father’s lawyer, who called the agreement “not necessarily equal, but acceptable.” The settlement, reached in Santa Cruz County Superior Court, was accepted in family court, where a civil custody suit was pending. The exact terms were sealed, Meltzer said, but he noted that Agustin De Mello has immediate overnight visitation rights without supervision for the first time since Sept. 19, when Adragon was placed in foster care.
