ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Actor Griffin O’Neal was ordered to jail today for violating community service provisions of his probation for the boating death of a friend.
O’Neal, of Los Angeles, who appeared for the hearing voluntarily, has served only 60 of the 400 hours ordered in 1987 when Judge Martin A. Wolff sentenced him in the 1986 Memorial Day boating death of Gian-Carlo Coppola, 23, son of film director Francis Ford Coppola. O’Neal is the son of actor Ryan O’Neal. “I’m here to pay my dues and I’m willing to do it,” O’Neal said before beginning to serve his 18-day term.
