Egyptian police were looking for about 30 Muslim militants Thursday after an attack on a police station in which one man was killed, security sources said.

They said a group of fundamentalists, apparently seeking weapons, attacked a police station on Tuesday at El Minya, 150 miles south of Cairo.

Sobhi Yehia Saad, a 27-year-old member of the banned Jihad organization, was killed when security forces moved in to stop the attackers from ransacking the police post in an apartment block next to a mosque where the militants have set up their stronghold.

The fundamentalists regard most music, television shows and dancing as blasphemous and are seeking to enforce strict Islamic laws in several districts.
