Racial Gap: Lingering Problem for Blacks in American Society

I found Harris’ article very informative and highly accurate. It’s good to know that others are aware of our plight and willing to write about it.
I agree that it appears that America is not ready to accept the existence of upper-class wealthy minorities. I agree that it appears America may not be interested in viewing their lives on television.
Recently, I had the pleasure of participating in the filming of what we hope will be a pilot for the first black soap. And indeed, it is about a wealthy black family which obtained its wealth through several businesses. The story portrays well-dressed, well-educated and well-spoken blacks, making money and having problems. There are both serious and funny moments. Several individuals and corporations enthusiastically praised the production and said it is worthy of the opportunity to receive audience response.
But, so far . . . no takers. This is the end of the ‘80s, almost the year 2000 and I find it hard to believe that America is not ready to accept the upper-class wealthy minority. They have a story to tell and they are out there!
