Paula Ivan of Romania, a gold medalist in the Seoul Olympics, set a world indoor best time of 4 minutes 6.99 seconds in the women’s 1,500-meter run at the Winternationals track and field meet in Ottawa. The old mark of 4:09.96 was set by compatriot Doina Melinte in the same meet last year. Melinte finished second this time.
