Friend Held in Aiding Woman to Avoid Prison
Police have arrested the boyfriend of a Sunset Beach woman who disappeared after she was sentenced for killing three women in a drunk driving accident.
John H. Strain, 44, of Long Beach was arrested Friday at a Downey car rental agency, nearly 2 weeks after authorities caught his girlfriend, Kym Murphy.
Murphy was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 1985 for vehicular manslaughter as a result of the accident on Pacific Coast Highway in Seal Beach. She was scheduled to begin her sentence in November, 1987, but she vanished.
Based on an anonymous tip, Murphy was found in a Lakewood motel earlier this month.
Strain was arrested on suspicion of harboring a convicted felon. He was held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $60,000 bail.
