After winning the prime-time ratings race for 30 weeks in a row, NBC got an unneeded boost from the Super Bowl on Sunday and soared to its best showing in three years, A.C. Nielsen figures showed Tuesday. The network’s programs had an average audience of 18 million homes for the week, compared to about 10.8 million each for ABC and CBS.

* Even more satisfying for NBC than the strong Super Bowl performance is the growth in viewership for “In the Heat of the Night,” which was the 13th most-watched show of the week and outdrew ABC’s “Moonlighting” for the fifth consecutive week.
