Washington Mayor Testifies in Probe Again
Mayor Marion Barry testified Tuesday for the second time in a week before a grand jury investigating alleged drug activity at a downtown hotel room and reports of free-wheeling spending by city employees on assignment in the Virgin Islands.
Barry’s attorney R. Kenneth Mundy said Tuesday’s questioning focused on the $260,000 joint personnel project between the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.
That project was co-managed by Charles Lewis, a former city employee who was also reportedly the target of an undercover drug investigation.
Barry, 52, a third-term mayor, and Lewis, 50, have denied any involvement with drugs.
