WASHINGTON — Senate Republican leader Bob Dole proposed legislation today to end the Social Security earnings limit for people over 65, saying it keeps “senior citizens from productive work.”
Dole offered a bill that would phase out the limit over five years, starting in 1990, at a cost of $6.6 billion. Similar bills have been introduced in the past. Under current law, people 65 to 70 lose 50 cents of each dollar in Social Security benefits for every dollar earned.
