From Times wire services

Senate Republican leader Bob Dole proposed legislation today to end the Social Security earnings limit for people over 65, saying it keeps “senior citizens from productive work.”

Dole offered a bill that would phase out the limit over five years, starting in 1990, at a cost of $6.6 billion. Similar bills have been introduced in the past. Under current law, people 65 to 70 lose 50 cents of each dollar in Social Security benefits for every dollar earned.
