The League of Women Voters Southern California Regional Task Force is inviting service clubs, homeowners organizations, environmental and political groups, and others to join in forming a Superfund Community Working Group to educate the public on ground-water pollution in the San Gabriel Valley.

Mary Johnson, project manager, said the effort will begin with a dinner meeting of delegates from organizations at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the El Monte Community Center. Organizations interested in sending delegates may call Johnson at (818) 967-8055.

Johnson said federal, state and local water experts will be invited to speak at a series of monthly meetings, open to the public. The meetings will explore the pollution problem and the steps being taken to preserve the area’s water supply. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has placed the area on its Superfund cleanup list.
